Carol Brown “My work with Ifa Lethu commenced in 2010 when I curated the major travelling exhibition called ‘Home and Away’, which opened in Consitution Hill, Johannesburg, during the time of the World Cup in South Africa. This exhibition drew attention to the opportunities which were lost to artists in South Africa during the apartheid era. The exhibition met with great success and after a tour of prominent South Africa museums it was invited to Australia to the University of Canberra Drill Hall Gallery.” “This led to other national and international invitations and in 2012 it was a great honour to be part of the South African Dept of Arts and Culture’s programme for the Olympics in London. It has been a great privilege for me to work as consultant curator for this important part of our country’s heritage. The exhibitions have been particularly inspiring for many of our young artists who are made aware of their history and now realise that they have role models who were previously not known to them.” Carol Brown was formerly Director of the Durban Art Gallery and is the appointed consulting curator for Ifa Lethu. With a Masters Degree in Art History she curates 10 Ifa lethu annual report 2012/13 exhibitions both nationally and internationally, and has worked with the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) on numerous exhibitions and projects both in the United States and in South Africa. Carol was awarded a fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta.
