Ifa lethu annual report 2012/13 3 BOARD OF DIRECTORS Strategic & Executive Leadership GLOBAL ADVISORY COUNCIL Networking & Profiling ADVISORY COUNCIL Brand Ambassadors/ Ceremonial Powers Dr Lindiwe Mabuza Honorary Lifetime President Born in Newcastle, Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa, Dr Mabuza began her career in 1962 teaching English and Zulu Literature at Manzini Central School in Swaziland, followed by lecturing in the Department of Sociology at the University of Minnesota. She became a Member of the first democratic Parliament in South Africa in 1994, followed by five years as Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany, and as High Commissioner in Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and the non-resident Ambassador to the Philippines. She became High Commissioner of the Republic of South Africa in the United Kingdom in 2001 and was recalled in 2009. Dr Lindiwe Mabuza is an experienced diplomat, a political activist and a poet. Dr Narissa Ramdhani is the Chief Executive Officer and Board Member of the Ifa Lethu Foundation. Her previous positions have included Directorships of Research Centres at the former Universities of Durban-Westville and Natal and positions with Yale University, former President Nelson Mandela’s special projects and the African National Congress. Under her leadership Ifa Lethu has become the largest heritage repatriation organisation in South Africa with collections having been repatriated from across the globe. She has also provided the vision to morph the Foundation into one of the largest creative entrepreneurial development organisations in the country, providing skills for creative practitioners so they may become successful entrepreneurs. This has led to several South Africa artists and fashion designers being catapulted onto the international stage and has assisted in turning their skills into commercially viable entities. Dr Ramdhani holds the following degrees: University of KwaZulu- Natal Ph.D. (History), MA (African History): B.A. (History, Classical Civilization); University of South Africa – Honors (History; University of Connecticut - M.A. (Public History); and an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters conferred in 2010 from the University of Connecticut, USA , in Recognition of her contribution to South Africa’s rural development. Dr Anna Mokgokong Chair Governance Born in Soweto and raised in Swaziland, Anna Mokgokong is a South African businesswoman who has received international acclaim for her entrepreneurial ability. As former President of the South African Women Entrepreneurs Network (SA WEN ) and the International Women’s Forum of South Africa (IWFSA ), Anna is a much sought-after public speaker with a keen interest in community development and women empowerment. She was inducted in 1998 into the Women Entrepreneurs of the World, an independent, international network of the world’s powerful and successful female entrepreneurs. She also was the recipient of the prestigious SA Businesswoman of the Year Award 1999. Dr Mokgokong has also served in academia and the public sector – having chaired the Council of the University of South Africa and served on the Commission for the Remuneration of Public Office Bearers, where she was the Deputy Chairperson. She was appointed to serve as a member of the Interim Defence Force Commission. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree (University of Botswana), a MBChB (Medunsa) and a Doctorate Honoris Causa Commerce (UNISA ). She recently was honoured by Harvard University in USA as a key note speaker at the “Africa coming of Age” Conference.
